WHAT IS FAMILY CONTACT AND WHY DOES IT MATTER?

Family Contact is when children, temporarily separated from their family while in foster care, spend time with their family. This valuable time together is important because it:

• maintains and strengthens family relationships (parents/children, siblings, extended family)

• reduces trauma for children (provides routine, connection to culture)

• builds resiliency (opportunity to learn and practice new skills)

• increases reunification and permanency through relationship and encouragement

Beacon Hill’s Family Support Centers provide a home-like space for families to bond with child-led play, board games, art, sensory activities, and shared meals around a table. Support services and referrals to other programs are provided to support children, parents, and foster families alike.

Let’s Connect
